Spring 2019 Denim Trends You Can Shop Right Now (Part 1)

         Jeans, as we know them are a pair of pants made from denim. Denim itself is a fabric made from a 100% cotton. A collection of cotton thread is used to weave larger threads. This process forms the diagonal ribbing on the outward surface of the fabric. Many shades are as a result of the fabric being dyed to certain levels to suit preferred styles. According to the BBC, historically, in Nimes, France, the material back then wasn’t all cotton as we have it today. It was originally a combination of both wool and silk. Historically, textiles were called after their places of origin. That is why it’s named - serge de Nimes, which eventually evolved in to “de Nim.”Today’s fabric is now a 100% cotton denim, which was first invented in England and later perfected in American factories.

      It is amazing to see how denim has evolved and presently a closet must-have to fashionistas around the world. Many designers like GUESS and others have put together dozens of fashionable styles desirable to old, young, rich, poor, men and women. From time to time, shopping gets a bit burdensome with so many options out there and most of the time we women are particular on what fits our frame. There are certain trends that are prevalent over others in which I must add are slowly making waves this season. Therefore, I felt it helpful to put together a list;

  1. Distressed jeans is indeed edgy and a fashion extraordinaire. It can be argued they were prevalent in the late 1980's during the hard rock/rocking roll era and remained from the 1990s through 2000s. Trends include but not limited to; tattering edges and closures, deep whiskers, intense dying to faded looks, even ripping and tearing to the denim fabric. The options available are so many, I will help break it down below:

         a) Nominal distressed Jeans: Tearing is minimal and tidy.

          b) Moderate Distressed Jeans: tearing and frays are all over but moderate,nothing over the top.

          c) Extreme Distressed Jeans: Tearing or frays are exaggerated. Sometimes exposing a section of the body.

         Care - Immerse your pair (turn it inside out) in a good amount of cold water mixed with laundry detergent. Let them soak in the lathered solution for a while, then carefully whisk, permitting the soapy water to slide through the fabric.Do not brush. Hard scrubbing causes the threads to weaken, leading its holes to widen and color fad. Rinse about three to four times to ensure all the detergent flows out. By using a washing machine, turn them inside out. Wash using a gentle cycle using cold water, after wash, hang to dry. Please note – always review the washing instructions attached to your denim. If unclear, reach out to the brand for more information. Avoid using           bleach products or laundry soap containing bleach, you do not want to lose your pant's unique shade.

  1. Cargo Skinny Jeans - Skinny jeans for ladies has certainly followed its own fashion phases. Every season, new alterations are either added, adjusted, revamped or deducted. From high waist, midrise, low-rise, cropped to curvy and many more, to keep count is impossible. Nevertheless, what has remained constant is the shade – medium wash. Notwithstanding, they give you comfort and offer support lifting your bottom.

Note* avoid using bleach products or laundry detergent that contains bleach.

  1. Jeggings are simply your leggings in denim fabric. The term is a combination of two words - jeans and leggings. Many ladies can confirm they are absolutely comfy and fitting. The waist band replaces the standard button system. They are superb for pregnant ladies as they do not place too much pressure on their bellies. And just like jeans, they come in many shades.
